Shu Lecture

In this narrative-style presentation, I described the branches of my projects as ‘encounters’, representing the meeting with various opportunities, corresponding to the diverse possibilities encountered in the process of discovery. Inspired by Patricia Milder's essay ‘TEACHING AS ART: The Contemporary Lecture-Performance,’ where she discusses how artists push past disciplinary boundaries and blur the lines between art and life (Milder, 2011), through the adoption of an extreme persona, I obscured the boundary between the artwork and an exposition of my thought process, presenting it as a speech alongside a short film showcasing my experiments and artworks. aligning with the idea of breaking down boundaries between disciplines and bringing art into the lived experience, as Milder suggests. The language I employ serves to correspond with the narrative role I have assumed, echoing themes found in Hannah Black's "Dede, Eberhard, Phantom" (kunstvereinbraunschweig.de, n.d.). The curse words I have used in my speech can be likened to the disguised form of vocal noise or silence. The offensive language in my speech reinforces my view on meaninglessness. Cursing as an emotional expression, acts similarly to an exclamation mark or the colour red in conveying intensity. Also to emphasise that in the performance lecture I am not questioning art's meaning; rather, I'm questioning and reflecting on the necessity of meaning in general. While the small matters serve as projections of larger matter.
